The decision to offer only organic produce allows shoppers to know they are purchasing fruits + vegetables that are not only free of harmful pesticides and herbicides, but also that their produce is farmed more sustainably and is better for soil health, biodiversity and pollinators and protects farm workers from having to handle harmful chemicals during harvest. The Co-op’s commitment to waste reduction is evident throughout the store. The store implements a comprehensive food donation and composting program, which diverts 36,000kgs of waste from landfills annually. Another sustainability effort is their notable “BYOC” (Bring Your Own Container) campaign, which allows customers to fill their own containers with bulk goods and receive a discount on the bulk product they are purchasing. This inspires customers to reduce single use plastics, which cuts down on packaging waste and promotes a more sustainable shopping experience.
