KEEP THE BEAT CONCERT SET FOR LAKESIDE PARK ON JULY 21th
A group of Nelson youth will present ten hours of live music at Lakeside Park in Nelson, B.C.
on Wednesday, July 21th. The fifth annual fundraising concert for War Child Canada kicks off at 12:00 pm and continues non-stop until 10:00 p.m. This is the fifth annual community based event, and is entirely organized by youth. Over $50,000 was raised for the work of War Child in the past four years.
There is no admission fee for the concert and all ages are welcome. Funds are raised through pledges collected, through an on-site silent auction and donations are welcome during the event.
Eli Zibin, who is one of the organizers of this event, says the group has three main goals for Keep the Beat. The first is to raise money and help war-affected children. Secondly, they want to provide an annual community event that brings people together in Lakeside Park for a day of fun. Their final goal is to give young people the experience of working together to organize a major event. So far, Eli is pleased with the work they have done in all three areas.
This years line-up will include Elias, an up and coming band from Vancouver, as well as local favorites Adham Shaikh, the Lazy Poker Blues Band, Mushana Marimba, Locomotive Ghost and more. Also this year, the organizers are pleased to have Alyson Rowe, War Child Canada’s Youth Outreach Manager all the way from Toronto, speak at this year’s event.
Supporters of this year’s Keep the Beat include the Osprey Community Foundation and the Shenango Choir.
War Child Canada works with children all over the world to reduce the effects of poverty, provide an education and to defend and promote child rights. War Child works to help children whose lives have been torn apart by conflict, and provide them with the means to build a brighter future. War Child works with local people and organizations in Afghanistan, Darfur (Sudan), Uganda, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Georgia and Haiti. War Child Canada also generates awareness, support and action for children’s rights everywhere and has domestic outreach programs in schools and among youth across Canada.
